Keep Calm and Show Trust

 Hello my beautiful friend,

Cancer is an ugly word, and it evokes ugly thoughts and feelings. So, when you are diagnosed with cancer it’s quite easy to go to a dark place and stay there. For your own emotional and mental benefit, I highly encourage you to find something to combat this. Having a positive outlook is so important. I know not everyone believes in God, and not everyone believes the Bible is his inspired word, but I do. As a matter of fact, if it weren’t for my faith, there is no way I would have been able to get through my chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Early in my A/C treatment, that’s short for Adriamycin/Cyclophosphamide, the beautiful scripture at Isaiah 30:15 was shared with me, it says in part, Your strength will be in keeping calm and showing trust.”  That thought brought me so much comfort. I had complete trust in Jehovah. I knew that He would be with me through all my treatment, and in a worst-case scenario, He would keep me safe in His memory, until the time he awakens all those asleep in death to a resurrection on a beautiful paradise earth, as promised in Acts 24:15 and Revelation 21:4&5. My complete faith in His power and promises kept me very calm, and in turn he blessed me with strength that I cannot describe. At the time, I didn’t feel strong at all; chemotherapy strips you of any energy you have. In conversation with my family and friends, they would comment on my strength, and how encouraging it was. This strength came from Jehovah himself; I know it wasn’t coming from me.

Even though what I was facing was daunting, and there were days when I couldn’t see the finish line, Jehovah was with me. While cancer is a horrendous disease that has claimed the lives of millions, and for those who survive it, they are forever changed, I am grateful that cancer taught me just how much I can rely on my God, how no matter the obstacle, there is nothing He can’t help me with, and there is nothing that I can face that I would have to face without His help. My faith in Him has never been stronger, and that made my fight worth it to me.

Staying positive and remembering that you are not alone, even when we feel alone sometimes, is vital in your fight. Make up your mind that you will win this, and then do it. You will have bad days, so during those days remember that they are only temporary, and you will be well again. The thoughts I shared are what helped me get through my journey, and I hope they will help you in yours. I’m rooting for you!!!! You can do this!!!!

Much love,

Laryssa

Change can be a good thing!!

Hello my beautiful friend,                   Sometimes when we get a diagnosis of cancer, we may feel like our lives are over. After going through chemotherapy, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and suffering the aftereffects of those treatments, we may feel that our lives are no longer our own. That we are a shadow of what we used to be. Despite my own struggles in coming to terms with my “new normal”, I choose to turn them into a positive. I allowed those experiences to refine me, not define me. Having gone through those experiences have allowed me to pinpoint exactly what I want out of life and given me the courage to pursue new opportunities that I wouldn’t have dared to dream for myself.                                 Recently, I have gone through a season of change. I decided to pursue continued education with the goal of being able to work fro...

Babe, what’s this?

Hello my beautiful friend,       So, this story is a little embarrassing for me to tell because it’s the story of how I found my lump and how long it took for me to get it checked out. I am hoping my story will help others in my situation make a different decision.     I found my lump in June of 2019. I'm not sure what led me to do a breast exam. I was young, no history of breast cancer in my family, but nonetheless, I did and found a lump. I didn’t think anything of it. I thought it was just a stupid little cyst and went on with my life. As time went on, it stayed there, and I did a little research and found that women who undergo hormonal changes may get little cysts in their breasts. I had a hysterectomy in April of 2019 and have dealt with endometriosis and PCOS most of my life, so issues with my hormones was not new to me. I thought that was the reason I had a lump; nothing for me to worry about.     My husband found my lump in Oct...
